The people behind ALIM.

Fahri Azzat has been part of ALIM since its first sessions, and co-ordinates its litigation work: when, whether and how the initiative steps into the disputes that shape Malaysia's creative sector.

He is also leading the work to incorporate ALIM as a company limited by guarantee, the step that will let it take on grants, banking and formal partnerships. In public, he was one of the three founders behind the ARTXLAW Workshop Series in July 2025, and spoke at ALIM's Art & Law Panel Discussion that September.

Karl Rafiq Nadzarin works where cultural policy meets the law that governs it. He leads ALIM's arts-policy research and co-ordinates its litigation strategy alongside Fahri Azzat.

He co-curates On Trial, ALIM's documentary-theatre project built from concluded, public-record Malaysian court material. Karl is often ALIM's public voice: on Penang Institute's Bual Nusantara, discussing how Malaysia can better defend its arts and cultural workers, and at the Kuantan Arts Festival in June 2026.

Marisa R Ng builds the relationships that carry ALIM beyond the legal clinic: with arts bodies, collectives and the cultural institutions that artists depend on.

She sat on ALIM's Art & Law Panel Discussion in September 2025, alongside Dato' Tiffanee Marie Lim and Fahri Azzat, an afternoon that also marked the launch of Project Sumandak. Her work keeps ALIM connected to the people and places where creative careers are actually made.

Nandakumar Haridas helps carry ALIM's case into public conversation, so that the artists and cultural workers the law most often overlooks know that free, confidential help exists.

He joined Karl Rafiq Nadzarin on Penang Institute's Bual Nusantara for “Membela Pekerja Seni dan Budaya”, a Bahasa Melayu conversation on defending Malaysia's arts and cultural workers, and sits with the founding group that sets ALIM's direction.

Nicholas Choong works where ALIM most often meets artists first: in the room.

He was one of the three founders behind the ARTXLAW Workshop Series at Estudio in July 2025, a run of Sunday-afternoon sessions on the legal side of a creative life, and works on ALIM's partnerships with arts bodies and collectives. His focus is making legal knowledge feel usable rather than intimidating.

Raul Lee Bhaskaran is an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya who also makes theatre and music.

He leads ALIM's technology, including alim.my and its plain-language legislation library, and leads On Trial, ALIM's documentary-theatre project. Working on both sides of the stage, he cares about how the law reads to the people it governs, and how to make it legible to them.
