About ALIM
01 What is ALIM? +
A non-profit initiative providing free legal advice, policy advocacy, and educational resources to Malaysia's creative communities.
02 Who founded ALIM? +
Fahri Azzat, Raul Lee Bhaskaran, and Nicholas Choong, with a growing network of volunteer counsel.
03 Is ALIM a registered organisation? +
Not yet. ALIM runs as a grassroots initiative led by its co-founders and a volunteer network of counsel. We intend to incorporate as a company limited by guarantee; that has not happened yet, and no page on this site should be read as saying it has.
How the advice works
04 Is the legal advice really free? +
Yes. All consultations are 100% pro-bono.
05 Is my consultation confidential? +
Yes. Confidentiality is treated as professional and absolute.
06 What kind of legal issues can you help with? +
Contract disputes, copyright and IP, performance agreements, employment and freelance matters, censorship, grants, and more.
07 Do I need to be a professional artist? +
No. We help hobbyists, emerging artists, students, cultural workers, and professionals alike.
08 Can you help if I am outside Kuala Lumpur? +
Yes. We assist remotely across Malaysia by email and video.
